Kodoja is a kaiju eiga meets Lovecraft story of giant monsters and an eldritch evil. The story consists of three graphic novel volumes, with the first issue of Symphony of Madness (Volume Four) released in October 2022.

The comic is a throwback to the earliest giant monster films - specifically Gojira (1954) and Rodan (1956). Both films carry a darker tone than their 1960s and 1970s counterparts and both are in black and white. Kodoja’s fusion of these earlier films with a lovecraftian ethos (without getting too dark) sets a future direction for giant monster stories.

Not content with just a comic book, Kodoja also has its own soundtracks - not only does each volume come with original music, there are two additional soundtracks to flesh out the storyline. Project Kyojo (now out of print) soundtracks earlier decades before the current-era story, and Sentient is a throwback radio drama telling the story of the morning before Volume 1 begins. All music (written and performed by Big Pimp Jones) fuses heavy drums with funk elements and monstrous orchestration reminiscent of Akira Ifukube’s Godzilla scores. KODOJA VOLUME 1 : Terror Mountain Showdown

Kodoja Volume 1 cover by Jess Hara

Kodoja Volume 1 cover by Jess Hara

Three years ago, Special Weapons Division deactivated a highly advanced Superweapon: a 200-foot tall DNA Droid called X66-7 or "Kodoja", it was shut down because it performed too well in testing to the point of being unstoppable. Today, Kodoja was reactivated without warning and cut a swath of destruction across America and leveled every outpost of Special Weapons Division, save one. That one surviving outpost is headed by demoted chief designer of Kodoja, Jennifer Cruz. With all of Special Weapons Division gone, she and her team must stop the weapon they themselves designed too well.

So, it is with great reverence for Kubrick’s work that I compare Kodoja to it…It is the place of Art, not all art to challenge conventional thought and I am happy to see Kodoja: Terror Mountain Showdown follow in a strong tradition of doing this. See the full review at BuyIndieComics.com

As he searches for a connection, the massive Kodoja bio-weapon hunts a freshly-emerged Giant Monster as Special weapons Division races to halt the kaiju assault. Separately, the Demonologist team of the Executive branch looks for a pattern in the crimes related to the first monster's rise. This book collects the 5-issue "Valley of the Giants" storyline.

With the world still reacting to an explosion of kaiju battling it out in Kamchatka, Professor Murakami and Secretary Velez continue their investigation into the Cosmic Awakening and the potential human link to the monsters emerging from their planetary slumber. Far away, Generals Cruz and Williams of Special Weapons Division arrive in Vanuatu, close to tracking down Kodoja, and as the giant monsters continue to clash, it becomes clear that Kodoja is in for the fight of its life.
